That cold February day remains engraved in my memory. When the doctor placed Miguel in my arms, I felt an immense love. But when I looked at my husband, Roberto, I realized he didn’t feel the same. The diagnosis was clear: our son had Down syndrome. While I held him with tenderness, Roberto sank into silence.

One night he told me the words that hurt me the most: “This child will be a burden.” From that moment on, I raised him alone, watching Miguel grow with infinite kindness and a heart ready to love even those who rejected him.
Years later, Roberto suffered a stroke. He needed constant care, and it was Miguel who stepped forward: “I can take care of him, Mom.” Day after day, he fed him, encouraged him, and stayed by his side with patience.

One day, through tears, Roberto whispered: “Our son is the best man I’ve ever known.”
Now, as I watch Miguel hold his father up to help him walk, I understand the truth: he was never a burden, but a gift who came into the world to teach us what love truly is.
